If you were around for Battlefield 2042’s messy launch, you probably remember the absolute chaos of bugs and exploits. Some were annoying, sure, but one stood out for being so ridiculous it almost felt like a feature. For a short while, players were literally flying through the air on Casper’s Recon Drone. It turned matches into a bizarre airborne circus, and for a few days, it was the kind of “only in Battlefield” moment you couldn’t make up. It was so memorable it’s still talked about in the community, especially in places like Battlefield 6 Bot Lobby.
The trick itself was surprisingly simple but needed two people to pull off. One player, running Casper, would deploy the OV-P Recon Drone. The other would stick a block of C5 right on top of it. For some reason, the game treated the C5 as a solid surface you could stand on. Once the second player hopped aboard, the drone pilot could just take off like normal. Suddenly you had a human passenger riding a tiny machine into the sky. It wasn’t just for laughs either – people quickly figured out ways to make it deadly.
Snipers loved it. You could drop one high up in a spot nobody could reach, turning them into a floating threat that was almost impossible to counter. Even worse, some squads used it as a kamikaze delivery system. Load a player with explosives, fly them over an enemy tank, and let them jump off. Boom – instant destruction. It was broken, totally unfair, but you had to respect the creativity. In a game built for chaos, this was chaos turned up to eleven.
Of course, it didn’t last. As funny as it was, the exploit wrecked match balance. Videos of “drone surfing” went viral, and while they made for great entertainment, DICE couldn’t leave it in. In a later update, they tweaked the drone’s physics so players couldn’t stand on it anymore. Just like that, the skies were clear again. Competitive players were relieved, but a lot of folks missed the madness. It was one of those rare glitches that became part of the game’s lore – a reminder that sometimes the most fun comes from the unexpected. Even now, when players talk about Battlefield’s wildest moments, this one comes up, right alongside stories you’ll hear if you ever buy Battlefield 6 Bot Lobby.
