I built my Warlock because Echoing Strike looked too fun to ignore, then I realised it's also picky about gear in a way most melee builds just aren't. The skill feels simple until you start missing breakpoints and your rhythm falls apart mid-fight. If you're impatient or you're trying to get a setup online fast, it can be tempting to purchase diablo 2 resurrected items and skip the dead-end testing. Either way, the big lesson is this: Echoing Strike doesn't care about attack speed like you'd expect, so you've got to plan around Faster Cast Rate and weapon stats.
How Echoing Strike really scales
You'll hear people say "just hit 75 FCR" and they're not wrong. 75% makes the skill feel smooth instead of clunky, and 125% is where it starts to feel unfair. The weird part is how hard your weapon's base stats get copied across those projections. Deadly Strike, plus skills, and anything that boosts the actual hit gets echoed over and over. It also changes how you aim. Throw long, let the blades return, and you'll watch bosses get clipped multiple times on the way back. That return path is where a lot of the damage hides, and once you notice it, you can't unsee it.
Starter weapons that don't waste your time
1) Insight in something like a Great Poleaxe is still the early MVP. That FCR helps you reach a breakpoint without living on perfect rings and amulets, and Meditation is basically permission to play aggressively. I used it while farming Travincal around P5 and it was steady. Not flashy, but you're not chugging pots every room either. 2) If you want a cheap spike in raw damage, an eth Hellslayer can carry harder than people expect. The max damage pushes your echoes up, and the Fireball proc actually helps when packs are spread out and you're still learning spacing.
When the build clicks: Arioc's and heavy armor plays
3) Arioc's Needle is the weapon that made the class make sense for me. A good +skills roll pumps Echoing Strike and the Mirrored Blades synergy at the same time, and the built-in Deadly Strike stacks up fast. Ignore Target Defense makes normal content feel like paper, and in Chaos on higher player counts I saw clears tighten up a lot just from consistency. 4) For the nastier Herald fights, I liked leaning tankier with Fortitude in a big two-hander like a Thunder Maul. It's not elegant, but when the arena gets messy, the res and damage let you keep casting instead of kiting.
Keeping your options open without burning out
The best part is you don't need one "perfect" weapon, you need a plan: pick an FCR target, then choose a stick that multiplies well across five hits and a return pass.
